April 30- BLOOMINGTON KIWANIS PANCAKE BREAKFAST
BLOOMINGTON - The Kiwanis Club of Bloomington will host its annual Pancake Breakfast and Antique Model A Ford Show on Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m. to noon. The pancake breakfast will take place indoors at the First United Church, 2420 East Third Street, adjacent to Eastland Plaza and the Model A Ford Show will take place on the grounds around the church. All proceeds help Kiwanis Club fulfill its mission of supporting recreational and educational youth programming.
The cost remains the same as the past ten years, just $5 for adults and $3 for children 12-and-under. “We call it a bountiful breakfast,” laughs co-chair Allen Pease of Bloomington, “Because, for this small fee, guests enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice, milk and coffee.”
Admission to the Model A Ford Show is free according the co-chair Phil Sutton. The display will feature more than a dozen vintage automobiles from The Model A Restorers Club/Columbus, Indiana Region and the Hoosier Hills Model A Restorers Club. Members of the later club are from Bedford, Bloomington, Martinsville and Terre Haute. “This is always an eye-popper for the kids,” says Sutton who is also a member of the Hoosier Hills Model A Club, “and we encourage attendees to take photos if they wish.”
In addition to the breakfast and Model A Ford Show, local businesses and non-profit agencies will set up tables to distribute information or fund raise. “We always encourage this,” says Bloomington Kiwanis treasurer Bob Nelson of Martinsville, “especially among not-for-profits who serve children as we do.” Groups already securing space are Circle K at IU with a bake sale, Cutters Soccer Club with a fund raiser, Academic Scholarly Book Store with a book sale and Marge’s Rummage Sale. Tables are available for $10 per business or free for non-profit agencies.
“The motto of Kiwanis International is Changing the world one child and one community at a time,” explains co-chair Judie Iverson of Bloomington, “Over the past 91 years, Kiwanis Club of Bloomington has clearly illustrated this by building a rich legacy of service to the community.” The group co-sponsors 10 K-Family Clubs throughout the Monroe County School Corporation (MCCSC), the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation (RBBCSC), Indiana University, Options, Inc. and community-wide. The K-Family Clubs help to sustain the Kiwanis mission by cultivating the next generation of service leaders. Kiwanis of Bloomington is a charter member of the Junior Baseball League and loyally supports the Bloomington Swim Club, Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington, Boys and Girls Club of Ellettsville and the Riley Hospital for Children.
Membership in the club, which meets every Thursday for lunch at the Indiana University Memorial Union, is open to men and women who live and/or work anywhere in Monroe County.
